I really enjoyed checking out this classic performance of Deep Purple with an orchestra. The recording is very good. I enjoyed watching Ritchie go thru his different parts of the songs. If your a fan its worth a viewing.

If you like classical music and Deep Purple you'll obviously enjoy this concert. The first movement is the best of the three, as it features a wonderful guitar solo from Ritchie Blackmore. Lead singer Ian Gillan and bass player Roger Glover had just joined the band, so I would guess it was a little unusual to start with a classical concert. There is only a few minutes of vocals, but the band as well as the audience really seemed to enjoy it. Some of the camera shots are very interesting, a shot of one of the violinists tapping his feet, two elderly woodwind players looking at each other in amazement? at Blackmores playing.
I love hearing the orchestra and band play together. When they trade off from each other the transitioning is beautiful. I am amazed at how well the band sounded at such an early stage in mark II's period. This recording was before they released in rock, fireball, machine head, and who do we think we are. The chemistry was flowing that night. I wish I could have been there. Each time I watch this DVD I cannot help but notice how young Gillan, Lord, Paice, Blackmore, and Lord were. John Lord did an outstanding job writing this music. Each section flows from one to the other. Malcolm Arnold is superb. It is too bad they did not collaborate a second time. The only subtle flaw is the DVD does not have the entire performance like the CD. Nevertheless this DVD is priceless. I am pretty sure it is only available as a European and/or Japanese import. I have never seen it in record shops. It is one of those items you have to look for online. I feel this DVD/CD influenced many other musicians to work with orchestra's (i.e., Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai). Deep Purple's is the best. It is the first of its kind.Read full review
This is the first public performance of my favorite band. The recording was made in 1969 and, given the technology, it sounds great.
