This book is a relatively early book of the post-presidency of Jimmy Carter, but in it he sets forth his beliefs and ideas that have come to fruition in the years since this book was published. Carter's work has made him the most important former president in American history. This is not hyperbole, just look to the facts of the Carter Center. This is perhaps the finest book to start an examination of a president destined to stand with the most recognized presidents of the 20th Century; and certainly the important former president in the entire history of the nation. Exaggeration you think? Look at the many positive incontrovertible facts surrounding the life, philosophy, and work of this farmer from Georgia.

I had read the book in paperback then set out to find a hardback copy to add to my collection of Jimmy Carter books. The book is well written and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in knowing Jimmy Carter as a person. Some folks viewed him as an ineffective President, but if that is true it is only because he was too good of a person to be in politics. The book gives the reader a window to view him as the intellectual, honest, moral, straight forward, and caring person that he is in real life. There is nothing that I dislike about the book.
