Although this an older (1966) French movie that is dubbed/subtitled in English, it is still amazing to watch. Dialogue is limited the story being told as much with body language, scene staging, and use of black and white and color photography. The two central characters have tragically lost their spouses, and each in different states of recovery, meet. This movie had a sequel made as a twenty year follow-up that is more available, but no where near as good as the first movie.

I saw this movie in 1966. I enjoyed it more today than I did back then. I guess I am more mature today than I was then. I am 77 years old now and can relate more with the characters. .I caught tears in my eyes watching this. I liked it so much that I bought "A Man and a Woman Twenty Years Later." and throughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately I cannot find the third movie of this series "The Best Years of a Life."

Greetings !! This ( A Man and A Woman ) is one of the most romantic and realistic films ever made ( Although it did concern the Catholic Legion of Decency). It shows the enormous hurdles individuals who have lost partners must leap over in order to re-engage with new friends and society itself. Way beyond 'Love Story' or 'Endless Love' (which speak to youthful college-age couples), this film demonstrates that you may have an interesting daily Routine, but still not be engaged in living a full life. This was unprecedented when it originally came out. A piece of cinematic art blending music, color, black & white, monotone, humor and pathos and, of course, romance.
