I am still reading this book but it is great. From what I have learned this version includes all the chapters (36) and the censored versions only have (31). This book has in intended truth the author wanted. Some of it shocking and eye opening, but I would recommend this book to anyone. The price was excellent and the book was in great condition!

This is the only version that should be accepted as the true genuine article. "The Jungle" is heartbreaking, horrifying, profound and life changing. It gives needed historical background and context on the issues most important to us all today. To sum up, would say "the more things change, the more they stay the same". A wise verse going back 3000 years to Solomon, "There is nothing new under the sun". A masterpiece, written by a sage.

Great account, but remember that it was written for a socialist newspaper- the later versions were less strident. Regardless, there was much scandalous about the meat packing industry at the time, and reform followed soon after.

The Jungle is my absolutely favorite novel of all-time, to begin with. This is the 2003 release of unabridged original publication form of the novel, which first ran as a series in a mid-west socialist paper, a few years befoer the book was published. As cutting edge as the classic published form is, this is a little more, with some details you will not find in the classic public version. There are several sections of commentary at the book's beginning, to point out the differences, and also to discuss why the cuts may have been made. It was very political, and there was apparently a lot of back-room action effecting the publication of this. As late as the early 1980s, a meat-packing interest in Chicago actually bought up the rights to the first unabridged text and sabotauged its release and publisity. Read this, if you are interested.Read full review
Good to see how this well known story was originally meant to be read. I have the first edition of the book, but was unaware that it had been cut to remove some of the more graphic descriptions. This is an inexpensive yet nicely produced paperback worth reading.
