The Complete Book of Massage- The Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Eastern and Western Techniques is thorough, but unlikely to make you ready for a professional career as a massage therapist. This book provides a well-illustrated survey of many massage techniques and subjects. Some of the pictures and illustrations contain tasteful nudity while being instructive, not exploitative(if you are looking for erotica, this will not serve your purpose, but there is some full frontal nudity). There is enough information in the book to give you an introduction to and backgrounds about many "Eastern" and "Western" massage techniques. Topics from the table of contents are as follows: Beginning, Massage, Shiatsu, Reflexology, The Human Touch (makes me think of the line in the film "Crash"), Body Reading and Anatomy. Most of these topics are available in other of their own full fifty to two hundred page books, so you will not get in-depth information for each of these topics. This book itself is nearly two hundred pages and does a nice job of covering these various subjects. While this book is likely not enough to start your career as a massage professional, it will certainly be enough for you to become more effective when giving massage to those close to you. I bought this because I recently received my first ever full body massage by a licensed massage therapist and I wanted to know more about giving and receiving such therapy, since my wife and I have decided to make this a tri-monthly part of our lives. The book has helped me become more sophisticated as a massage client (e.g. knowing more about for what to ask). Also, since, financially, my wife and I cannot afford more frequent therapy, this is helpful for us to do, what I will call, "massage maintainence" in between our visits to the therapist. Overall, I am pleased with this book and found it available at a reasonable price.Read full review
This is an excellent guide to massage techniques - written in a clear and easy to understand manner. It is not boring or redundant, but outlines the steps to take in order to give an effective and relaxing massage. For beginning massage therapists or those experienced ones wanting a little refresher course of important things to keep in mind during a massage, I would highly recommend this book. Sometimes "basic" things are forgotten, but often it is the little touches (no pun intended) that make for a more enjoyable massage experience. Very well written book!

simple, easy to follow book. great for beginners, also good for veterans. second time having this book. my wife has loved what i've learned.
This book is much more than I had hoped for. I have practiced massage for about 20 years as a friend and this manual adds so much to the giving and receiving of the art. Detailed drawings and photos show the right position for both the massager and the massagee. One can just open the book to any page and in a moment explore a new way to please another person.
