This fun little movie is a wonderfully wacky & largely successful attempt to do a Universal-inspired monster rally done in the style of a low budget fifties sci-fi flick filmed in glorious black & white, all with swimsuit models & a stripper added to the mix. Not only does it feature the Frankenstein Monster & a thinly disguised Creature from the Black Lagoon, but it also has the Monster's Bride, a Werewolf (played by Butch Patrick!), a trio of mad scientists out to do their bit in the battle against terrorism ("In the war on terror, the ultimate terror wins!"), & even the ghost of Victor Frankenstein himself played by some guy made-up to look like the director's favorite actor Vincent Price. Sure, all the monsters look like they are made out of cheap rubber, but that was always one of the major charms of those old films, & I certainly can't fault their design which looks pretty darn cool despite their phoniness. The acting is generally okay. Oh, not Oscar worthy by any means, but certainly all right for this kind of picture, & the folks playing the monsters definitely throw themselves into their parts with everything they've got. The heroine is played by the director's wife (supposedly she was once a major star in the Philippines...), & while she may not be as young & sexy as any of the monsters' bikini-clad victims, she comes off as quite likable & plays her part with conviction. Speaking of her female co-stars, a word of warning is in order as there is a fair deal of nudity on display in this film. Also, the 'girlie magazine' photographer hero has an effeminate gay comedy relief sidekick that some might find more offensive than funny. As for the rest, the disc comes with a whole bunch of extras, including the wonderfully old-fashioned trailer for the film which convinced me to buy the DVD after I saw it on YouTube, a director's commentary track, two documentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers, & even a brief full color comedy bit where the Frankenstein Monster gets a lap dance from the aforementioned stripper! While by no means a perfect movie "Frankenstein vs. The Creature From Blood Cove" is certainly enjoyable if you are a fan of the old horror movies where the 'monster' wasn't just some psychotic outpatient in a cheap hockey mask who had access to the contents of a gardening shed.Read full review

Bad acting, poor script, bad props. You must applaud current attempts to resurrect the old 1930s-1940s style monster movies, but this helps kill them. Come on. Get it right.
