I am on a mission to save money. Sometimes, it's best to save money a dollar at a time. So, I had given up a lot of disposable things. No more money going in the trash, disposing and replacing. Then one day my Bic lighter fizzed out and I nearly replaced it with another disposable $1 lighter. I am not a smoker. I use a lighter for para-cord crafts, for loose sewing threads, for camping, for candles, for building a fire. A very Handy tool. Well, I caught myself before I bought a new disposable lighter. It would be cheaper to buy one real Zippo lighter and a bottle of $3 fluid, that will last longer that a whole pack of disposables. That would last me as long as over 20 of the disposable kind. So, it cost more up front, but saves money over time. The Zippo lighter fluid is available at Walmart for $2-$3. Or Ronsonol fluid at Walgreens. The Zippo is actually sold empty. It comes with a flint under the wheel, and a wick, but no lighter fluid. So my initial purchase of the lighter and the bottle of fluid cost me more than a cheap Bic lighter, but it is such nice quality that I can see why it could last me so many years. After a few weeks of use, I ordered a second one since I found a great price. If you buy a used one, you need to plan to change the wick and the flint. So it was a better deal to buy it new right now. Even during the holiday season, I can't find these at this great price. So, I got lucky. I have enjoyed using it so far and will recommend Zippo lighters to everyone. But be careful not to buy a knock off or a copy. They are not the same, not even close. Just as a side note, I do not overfill, or fill very much, as the lighter will dry out while sitting in the closet for a couple weeks. So, Don't waste your fluid. I only put a little fluid in it when I need to use it. The fluid can stay in the original can forever without drying out. So, if I was stocking up, I could see buying more cans of the right fluid. Leave them in the closet with your extra lighter. Do not fill these lighters with anything other than zippo lighter fluid or Ronsonol lighter fluid. Simple instructions. But there are plenty of YouTube videos of folks who have ruined their lighters by trying other things like kerosene from grandmas oil lamp, or charcoal lighter fluid from the BBQ. Though those sound like it would work, it will not, and you can ruin the wick. So, save yourself the trouble. Buy the right lighter fluid. Both the flint and the wick will last you a very long time. But it is good to keep a spare on hand so you have them when you need them, and are not stuck shopping for them or waiting for them in the mail. I keep mine taped to the can of fluid, so I know where they are. Haven't needed them yet. You don't need a fancy pattern on your Zippo. I bought the plain chrome one. A friend of mine bought the black one. I can just see him dropping that one while camping, and I'll remind him that he should have bought the orange one. But really, the plain one is fine, as you can put a sticker on it of whatever you like. You can paint a pattern on the chrome with regular enamel nail polish. You can decorate it however you want. If the decor gets chipped or messy over the years you can sand it off and redecorate. My lighter is for real yes, not a collector's item, so I need a color I can find, and one I can identify as mine when it gets borrowed. Read full review

I bought several of these and I'm going to buy more. Zippos are the best lighters in the world and they function in the very worst of conditions. I'm a "prepper," so I bought them for my "Bug Out Bag, my emergency vehicle bag, first aid kit, fire starting kit, etc. I also bought spare flints, wicks and lighter fluid. Everything gets vacuum sealed with Silica Jel bags. Buy them! Be safe!

I love this little thing. Makes a great noise when you open it. Lights every time. Compact enough to fit in the coin pocket on jeans.

It was fun playing around with, but for certain uses you can taste the lighter fluid.
