One of the great REM classics that is often underrated by fans of their newer work and (slightly) overrated by those who reject anything REM did after the 80's. My personal favorite track is Feeling Gravitys Pull (the starter) which has some fantastic guitar and a lot of quirk. All the songs are solid and Driver 8 should certainly be listed as another one of the best tracks here. 4 Stars.
I bought this CD for one reason {however I have yet to receive it}- the mysterious and etherial song 'Driver 8', which I first heard a very long time ago on WOUR, a local FM rocker. The song has haunted me since then. While not REM's first album it is certainly the most interesting.
Words can't do it justice, but I'll try... It's interesting, it's dark, it has lots of Michael Stipe crooning, and I think there's one song on it that isn't bittersweet (the awesome Can't Get There From Here). Jangly and not that complicated, but it sounds great and emotions come across. I think Lifes Rich Pageant and New Adventures in Hi Fi may be better albums, this one's still my favorite.
