I bought this CD after seeing Harry Connick Jr. perform in concert in Chicago, in March 2007. This CD includes songs performed at that concert. It is a wonderful CD, a great blend of classic songs that everyone knows and new, intense love songs, and a post-hurricane Katrina tribute song for New Orleans. Mr. Connick, as well as his musicians, are spectacular, and the musical arrangements are inventive, just listen to Mr. Connick's version of the Hank Williams' classic Jambalaya, and you'll know what I mean! I am, again, very satisfied with the wonderful music of Harry Connick Jr., and will continue to be a loyal fan. When you can't hear the songs live, this is a great alternative!
First I like Harry's music and think he is a good guy. This CD combines some Funk with Jazz and a good blast of the old standards. As always, Harry surrounds his music with excellent musicians. This CD is very easy on the ears and if you like Harry you will like it. If you have not heard Harry's work and like a Sinatra type style- you should give this a try. For myself, the more I listen to Harry's work the more I like his music. I heard parts of this CD in a high end book and music store and really liked it. Rather than spend $19.99 I decided to go home and check Ebay first. I found a seller with a good reputation and saved over $5.00. What else can I tell you. I would also rec Harry's "Star Turtle" CD which can be found on Ebay. It has some great Funk and fantastic songs that will grow on you.Read full review
I love the sounds of Harry Connick Jr. and this album exemplifies his creative efforts tied to his personal nostalgia and New Orleans heritage. I feel a connection and a greater appreciation of the early and classic jazz sounds through his singing and the renditions. This album doesn't showcase Harry's virtuosic piano playing like in his other recordings but it keeps the focus on the history and the raw heart and soul of the culture.
This was my 1st Harry Connick, Jr. CD--recommended, no less, by my 95 y/o mother who lived in New Orleans all her life until Katrina. I was born and raised in New Orleans, but moved away after college; the whole album is such a great mix of New Orleans sound-jazz, blues (Harry Connick,Jr style), soulful pop, spiritual, big band, honky-tonk piano, etc. You name it, it's there. Thank God for iTunes and the computer and iPods, because I think I'm going to wear this one out! I get tears in my eyes everytime I hear "All These People". Because of this album, I've bought more of his CD's---but this one is my favorite.
I like Harry Connick Jr. very much and I have all of his CD´s, so I had to buy this one. I appreciate his music and I would like to see him alive, playing his piano and singing. One day, who knows...
