Norma Jean returns with energy enough to choke a horse. their classic Norma Jean sound comes through on about half of the tracks, and the other half find them exploring new sounds. several tracks feature guest vocalists singing backup or eve sharing lead vocal roles with Corey, who also explores new ground, stepping into an angry-scratchy singing voice for a couple of tracks. while some of the more traditional Norma Jean fans don't like this sound, I've enjoyed it quite a bit after a few listens. I put this CD in my car the first day I got it and it hasn't budged since, just played over and over and I haven't even started getting sick of it yet.
Norma Jean have taken it upon themselves to continue to make each album incredibly distinct and amazing. Thank God for great artists who aren't afraid to challenge themselves and continually try new things. Norma Jean is a great band.
