I wish I could personally thank Anthony. I lost a very dear, close friend to cancer and had a difficult time accepting it. I watched a vibrant, lovely man wither away. When he died, my heart became heavy as an anvil. After three weeks without my dear friend, I boarded a plane and went to NYC. I had to get away. I purchased "Without You" and read it in a coffee shop in the Village over a period of two days. I remember putting the book down when I had completed it and I just started to cry. It was Anthony's words, his love that captured me. Anthony helped me put my friend to sleep, always there, tucked away in the crevices of my mind, accessible when needed, and alive in my soul. My heart returned to lightness and it was because of Anthony's book. I don't know if you will ever see this, dear Anthony, but I thank you. Who knows? I'm coming to NYC again in September 2011. Fate could lend a hand. You never know, right? But if not, I send you a hug of lightness and love. Thank you.Read full review
I loved the book! It was so real and it showed that even stars fall and have troubles behind the movie camera. Anthony Rapp's life has been a blessing and a curse. He gets cast in the musical RENT, but then finds out his mother is dying from cancer. Along the way, he endures hardships with the romantic relationships he is in. I decided to buy it because I love the musical RENT and my friend told me it was a really good book. It was an emotional story, but a lovely one at that. I recommend it to people who share the love of RENT and it's message, but due to the homosexual content and graphic sexual detail, be wise when buying this book for a younger audience.
Anthony rapp is an amazing man with an amazing talent. this book is about his life as a 20 something dealing with the lose of several close friends and family members. I have recently delt with a loss of someone close to me and reading his book has really help me work through it. He talks so openly and plainly about his feelings that i finally was able to allow myself to feel the loss. this is a must read for anyone dealing with any kind of loss.
I loved this book from first page to last. Anthony Rapp writes a passionate story about his life's work in the theater and the life and death of his mother which he absolutely adored. We see events from his child hood right up to just before the release of the movie version of RENT. This is a perfect book for anyone looking for a good Autobiography or more background on the show RENT.
