I teach social studies in addition to language arts, and I am constantly looking for good non-fiction reading strategies to use in my classroom. This book, written by one of the masters (Laura Robb, whose 6+ traits books are used in classrooms everywhere), provides a lot of structured activities to incorporate into daily classroom readings. What is unusual about the book is its inclusion of math reading strategies, which aren't often found in books like this one. It's a great find for those who also love Nonfiction Matters! by educator Stephanie Harvey.
I bought Teaching Reading in Social Studies, Science, and Math for a class and was very pleased by the content of the book. This book helped me to see a solution to the problem that I have seen as an Aide in social studies, science, and math classes. This book is great in that it offers you many strategies, lesson plans, and ideas on how to teach reading in these areas. I will continue to use this book in my teaching career.
