Il grande ritorno di Prince
Il live è la testimonianza del trionfale tour che ha fatto seguito all'uscita dell'apprezzato "Rainbow children" del 2001. Prince ritorna con un grande tour dove la presenza del Jazz e del Soul si fanno sentire in molti dei numerosi brani inclusi. Accompagnato da una band stellare che vede tra le sue fila il grande Maceo Parker già membro della band che per anni ha accompagnato James Brown ed un John Blackwell alla batteria in grande spolvero. Il concerto spazia da atmosfere venate di Jazz e brillanti brani di funky, quello vero, quello della tradizione. Non mancano le ballads, sensuali ed eleganti (Mellow)che vedono un Prince in stato di grazia alternarsi alla chitarra ed al piano. Una chitarra che testimonia chiaramente la passione che Prince ha per Santana, suo dichiarato modello ispiratore. I CD1 e CD2 contengono diversi brani tratti da varie date come quelle di New York, Portland e Los Angeles mantenendo un buon equilibrio tra i brani senza troppi interventi in fase di editing per non perdere la freschezza della splendida esecuzione. Prince scalda l'audience con il suo carisma e si dimostra anche un abile comunicatore, parla, scherza ed interagisce con il pubblico in visibilio. Il terzo CD invece contiene la performance durante l'aftershow che a pieno titolo può essere considerato un concerto al 100% protrattosi dalla tarda notte fino alle luci dell'alba. In questo contesto ritroviamo il Prince più tradizionale con le sue coinvolgenti cavalcate funky. In definitiva One Nite Alone é un lavoro splendido che testimonia tutto il valore di un artista completo, un grande protagonista della musica nera dei nostri giorni che ritorna ad occupare il suo posto nel firmamento delle stelle di prima grandezza. Come lui stesso afferma durante il concerto possiamo dire che questo lavoro é "Real Music for real Music lovers", un lavoro in grado di soddisfare anche i palati più fini, fondamentale per i fans di Prince ma anche adatto a chi non ama Prince o non lo conosce bene come meriterebbe, un lavoro in grado di far cambiare opinione a chiunque. One Nite Alone...Live! by Prince
I just put on this 3 CD set today and I am now playing it for the second time. Although on forums, this set has been dismissed by fans as being too "spiritual," I am thrilled with its musical richness and depth, not to mention the smooth jazz/funk which permeates throughout the live set. I stopped buying Prince albums in the mid 90s, not because I didn't like the music, but because I grew weary of the emphasis on sex. Now, I am thrilled to find a richness, and a searching depth to his music, both lyrically and musically. I would love to hear him do more of this; a total jazz album would be excellent. I give this CD a 10 out of 10! Made my musical Sunday!
