I need the book for a small metals jewelry class. I could have gotten it at a lower price, but I was in a rush to get it. My only issue with the purchase was the envelope that the book was sent in (not packaged very well for mailing). The binder rings became damaged, but I straightened them out the best that I could. The book is alright.

I read it cover to cover. Lots of useful information. It doesn’t go in too deep on everything but it does provide a great overview for many topics related to working with metals. I would recommend this to beginner and intermediate metal artists. You will find something useful.

This book was recommended to me by another jeweler, I am somewhat new to the profession and was seeking her advice on several matters. This book has opened up new worlds for me in the making of jewelry. It not only gives proper methods, explained in laymans terms, but also gives the scientific explanation of why things happen/react the way they do, which I really liked. It currently sits next to me on my workbench as a reference guide and I use it often. To the experienced to the novice this is a worthwhile addition to your smithing library. Easily the best book in mine!
Whether you are just starting out in the world of metal work, or already a long time pro (in which case you most likely already own this book), this is the quintissential bible of everything you need to know. At first it seems a bit overwhelming, but don't try to take it all in at once. It's not a novel! It is a step by step manual of, well, how to work with metal. However, it also gives you weights and measures of different metals, and so much more. I bought it because I make wire jewelry and wanted to learn more about working with the different gauges of wire and what they will stand up to without breaking. I love it and it is well worth having in your library.
