Classic battle of good versus evil; love story; action... It's a Disney Movie! On the other hand, it is one of those movies I can watch over and over and over again. The story takes place mostly in the Australian Highlands, the scenery is beautiful. There is quite a bit or horseback riding in the movie and some of the riding will have you sitting on the edge of your seat especially if you have done any riding. The characters might seem a bit far fetched to city folk, but if you want to meet some characters just like them yet today, you can find them in North Dakota, Montana, Oklahoma, Wyoming.. anywhere in the US where they still use horses to get other animals out of the trees.
I bought this movie because we have the first movie, "Man From Snowy River", and loved it. This movie is as grand as the first. There is some awesome riding in the movie, and horse lovers will not be disappointed. I was a little taken aback by the change of actor for Jessica's father. But Brian Dennehy does his usual good job at being a blustery, arrogant man, and thus, fits the part quite well. There were a few tense moments when a viewer might think that the rich no-goods would get the upper hand, but they were resolved to satisfaction. Being more concerned with the horses, than the men, I cringed when it appeared that the stallion would be shot, and Jim's horse was, indeed, shot. Good movie to watch more than once, in order to catch things you missed before!
I am a fan of good western Movies. This one is one of the best ever made, even though it is from Down Under instead of Out West. It has a great plot, the Characters are engaging and well acted, The scenery is outstanding, The musical score is excellent, and the movie leaves you with the feeling of, Yea! thats the way it should end. Highly recomended and good for the whole family.
Good follow=up movie
