MY KIDS LOVED THIS INITIALLY BU NOW THEY ARE SICK OF IT. IT IS BASICALLY SOMEONE SPEAKING IN ENGLISH THEN SPEAKING IN SPANISH. MAYBE BECAUSE WE ALREADY SPEAK SPANISH THEY ARE BORED OF IT SO QUICKLY. BUT I SPEAK FAR MORE THEN THEM, AND THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE GOOD TO HELP THEM LEARN MORE QUICKLY. SO I STARTED PUTTING IT ON IN THE CAR, WELL AFTER THE 4TH TIME THEY DIDNT WANT TO LISTEN ANYMORE AND ASKED ME TO TURN DOWN THE VOLUME. IT DOES GET BORING AFTER A WHILE. IT IS KIND OF DULL THOUGH, AND THE VOICES DO START TO GET KIND OF MONOTONE. ESPECIALLY THE WOMANS. SO THIS REALLY IS MORE ADULTS AND NOT SO MUCH FOR HOMESCHOOLERS. AND SOME PARTS ARE CONFUSING, AS I WAS LISTENING(AS SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS SPANISH)THEY ATTEMPTED TO GIVE YOU DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SAME WORD OR PHRASE. TO A BEGINNER, IT IS BEST IF THEY START TO LEARN ONE WAY, NOT MORE THAN ONE. IT IS HARD ENOUGH TO LEARN A LANGUAGE WITHOUT HAVING TO LEARN IT MANY DIFFERENT WAYS. OVERALL, THIS HASNT BEEN TOO EFFECTIVE FOR KIDS. MAYBE IT WOULD WORK BETTER FOR ADULTS.Read full review
One of the best programs I've tried...but learning in your car is tough....I guess I can't drive and chew gum at the same time....It's a great program, and I listen to the tape while working,(driving) but, learn by listening at home in peace and quite...This is the best program I have used and could've saved a lot of money had I tried it first...I highly recomend to anyone starting out with a learning Spanish Progam...AAA+ Note: I do get a lot of stares going down the road as other drivers look at me repeating the phases...
This is working out pretty well for me. If you're relatively new to Spanish, as I am, I suggest sitting down with the booklets and going over the tapes a couple of times at home. The reason is that the Spanish speaker speaks pretty fast and the individual words aren't always clear to some of us who aren't at all fluent. After a first review, they're great for the car, and I listen and repeat them over and over in order to let it all "Sink in" to my memory. So, my only complaint is that the Spanish speaker could speak more slowly so each word could be understood, and give more time in between for the practice.
It is indeed a convenient and easy way to learn Spanish. You don't have to take extra efforts to concentrate like you do while reading a book. It provides a comprehensive coverage of different situations which one an encounter in a Spanish predominant community. I would recommend these CD's to anybody who wants to learn spanish in a short time!
This is not the best way to learn any language. It is very rote and relies on memorization without development of the grammatical concepts. The listener must carefully study the guidebooks (outside of the car!) to gain an understanding of what is being spoken. The course is very in-depth and thorough, but the delivery is not very well executed. The listener is not given enough time to listen to and repeat the Spanish sentences, and there is no actual conversation to help listeners become accustomed to the sound and sense of the language. It becomes almost overwhelming if the listener has not already done some study previously and is not already familiar with the concepts. I found the Pimsleur method much more amenable to learning a language.
