If you like: Nora Roberts Maggie Shayne Janet Evanovich Elizabeth Lowell Linda Howard Iris Johansen You will love this series. As with Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, you cannot read this in public if you don't want to embarrass yourself with snorts of laughter (I'm so not kidding). The scene where the heroine keeps trying to find ways to kill herself after she's dead is ROFL funny. Davidson's characters are well-fleshed out and believable, and there's terrific sexual and romantic tension between the heroine and a bad-boy vampire. Warning: there's a bit of kinkiness in here, so be prepared. This book made me want to read the entire series--and I may not wait till they come out in paperback. They're that good! Don't miss out on reading this series! :)
I really enjoyed the light hearted writing of this fun vampire series, but the main character is so clueless it is frustrating. It is one thing to be self absorbed and fashion forward. It is quite another to portray what could be a smart, sexy, feminine heroine as dumb as a box of rocks. The writer makes Betsy (the Vampire Queen to the Undead) as nothing more than a clueless blond who is more concerned with her shoe collection than seeing the simple clues and issues that are right in front of her face. It is sad that this is yet another heroine that could be seen as a strong, smart, sexy female but instead is given the typical stereotype of the dumb blond who is so self absorbed in her self and fashion that she created more problems for herself. The series is cute but disappointing in the end.Read full review
BACK OF BOOK SAYS: It's been a helluva week for BETSY TAYLOR, first she loses her job. then to top things off she's killed in a car accident. but what really bites besides waking up in the morgue dressed in a pink suit and cheap shoes courtsey of her stepmother, is that she can't seem to stay dead. every night she rises with a horrible craving for blood. she's not taking too well to a liquid diet. this book actually turned out ALOT better than i thought it would It's better than nina bangs, and semi silly like stephanie plum, but a cross between mc calister and sands maybe better matched to sookie. I really thought it was going to be silly or stupid and it wasn't. so now i am looking forward to reading undead and unemployed.
I recently saw this book at a local book store. I asked the clerk what she thought of it... and she had said she didn't read it. She told me it was a vampire story, which immediatly turned me off... but the cover had me drawn in. I decided to purchase book 1 just to see what it was like. I couldn't put it down! Betsy Taylor (the vampire) reminds me so much of Becky Bloomwood from the Shopaholic series!!! I loved this book, and am currently loving the series... I'm on book 4. You definatly have to read. It's cute, light, and good for a laugh... oh... and that Eric Sinclair!!! Ohh-la-la!! :o)
