DEATHWATCH is a horror film set during World War I. If that sentence sounds redundant...well, all realistic war films are actually horror films, and I think this is the whole point of DEATHWATCH. Though a supernatural element is introduced (the soldiers capture an enemy trench that is haunted by evil spirits), there is plenty of non-supernatural fear and death before they find the trench. Even then, the battlefield environment is so stressful and horrific that the soldiers and the audience can't be sure if they are fighting literal demons or if they are hallucinating after being gassed. The situation brings out the best and the worst in all the men. One soldier refuses to commit murder, while another admits that ALL war is murder, and that's why he enjoys it. In a defining moment, one soldier is allowed to leave the hellish trench. Before climbing out, he asks what is waiting for him outside...and gets no answer. The audience realizes that escaping the ghosts in the trench doesn't guarantee the soldier's safety; it merely throws him back into the hazards of battle. I liked the early war setting and alot of the characters seemed to fit perfectly in the film. Thankfully it did not incorporate a lot of gore. This is a all around good movie.
Me encantan las películas de terror, Este film lo vi en el cine hace varios años y quise tenerlo en dvd. Muy buena actuación de Jamie Bell. La recomiendo para los amantes del cine de terror.
