This is the pre-WWII edition and it is an absolute must read. Compared to this edition, Junger's 1960 revised edition in which he eliminated much of his nationalistic comments is flat and dull. To understand a soldier's mindset you need to understand why he fights, you get this in this first edition, but not in the 1960 revised edition.
