Son was constantly breaking the center conductor in the power connector going into his Dell laptop due to it sticking straight out the back and having limited desk space in his dorm room, he was always pushing it up against the wall, causing internal wire breakage and subsequent charger failure. Why Dell didn't address this problem sooner with a 90* connector, I'll never know. Anyway, it is highly recommend as a protection and insurance against having to purchase another power supply or cord due to wire breakage from too much flexing at the input to the laptop.

This power supply is built well enough to reliably supply power to a laptop even under heavy load, however, that's all the good about it. The wires have a very cheap insulating cover, and the connector is very poorly made. It will not maintain a good connection in any Dell or HP laptop that I've tested it in,and will sometimes begin to heat up excessively. I had to make modifications to the plug for it to say in the socket properly. In other words, do yourself a favor and save up the extra money to buy an OEM adapter.

New and appears genuine, just a different style/model. Block connection isn't tight and unplugs with little force. Downgrade compared to the original 90-degree plug that made it easy to wrap the cord around the block.

My spare charger/adapter died so I ordered this (for about 1/2 of the vendor price). This charger says Dell on it & it certainly appears to be the real deal. It works better than the one that came with my XPS-13 so I'm extremely pleased. The original was 45 watts. This is 65 watts so it charges faster but doesn't overload the battery or charging circuitry. The tip is lighted so you can tell at a glance if it's on or off & it also makes the cord easier to find. I recommend this product and would not hesitate to buy another. Hopefully this one outlasts the dead one (20 months).

The title says it all. The laptop does NOT pop up the "Can't identify power supply" message at boot as it does with some of the less expensive "new" but not fully compatible units. A used genuine Dell supply is within a dollar or two of the cost if the cheap imports and will last almost forever - I have several that are 10 years old and still working. The power supply only gets warm at full load. In other words, it works as you expect a new Dell power supply to work.
