Written to summarize the Time-Life WWII 39 book set, this book starts at the end of WW I and explains how the unrealistic war reparations imposed on Gemany by the Allied victors became the root cause of WWII. Spanning over two decades afterward, a vivid picture of the German, Japanese and Italian mindset unfolds and World War II explodes before your eyes with graphic photos and excellent writing. You will travel to each major battlefield (as well as many other lesser known) where you learn the horrific cost of all-out war and get an inside glimpse of the vicious machinery of war and the tremendous toll it exacts. Written in the classic, easy to follow style of Time-Life books, this book is for anyone who wishes to understand what their dad or grand dad went through fighting this horrific war. Yet it also gives testimony to what happens when people band together for the common cause of unity while standing in the face of fearsome consequences. While the 39 book set goes into far more elaborate detail of absolutely every aspect of WWII, this book is still a must-have in the library of the true WWII historian.Read full review

Great book. It has plenty of interesting and moving pictures of the biggest war to hit humanity. I have rented this one more than once before. This book is a short summary of the Time-Life WW2 series of books but a great one none the less.
