I'm by NO means a Ricky Gervais fan. It never occurred to me to see him in a movie as opposed to talk shows or hosting an award show during the season. But, truth be told, nothing else was on and I wasn't tired enough to sack in just yet. My actual thinking was that the movie would be so bad because of Ricky, that I would WANT to go to bed!!! I could NOT have been more surprised I have to admit!! The movie catches and hooks you within 3-5 minutes, and that laughing truly didn't stop for me until the credits rolled. I even snortled a couple of times!! the jokes are a lot of 1 liners that just either creep up on you, or hit you like a boomarang in the back of the head. Through out the whole movie you are truly on pins and needles as to whether the "ideal coupling" will work out. It's really just a great all around movie...light and fun and funny and full of the wonderment of the possibility of not only falling in love, but doing so with a man that is so totally NOT your type and who, at one time, you actually rather loath and just try to avoid at all costs since he ALSO LIVES in the same building you do and he is just about the most egotistical, selfish, self-centered, boring, self-serving man you've ever had the misfortune to meet. His only 2 redeeming qualities, it seems, is that he completely lacks any empathy or apathy. So, guess what kind of man he is yet??!! An @$$! Yes, an 100 percent pure @$$!!! The movie is just great though. Nice to see an @$$ to in to a decent human being when LOVE becomes involved in the equation.Read full review

Features Actors: Ricky Gervais, Tea Leoni, Billy Campbell & Greg Kinnear Running Time:102 Min. Rating:PG-13 What happens to you when you die? Perhaps you remain on Earth unable to rest in peace until you resolve all of your unfinished business. This is the sort of limbo Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear) finds himself in following his untimely demise on the streets of Manhattan. Hope for completing the transition arrives the day that something goes horribly wrong during Bertram Pincus' (Ricky Gervais) routine colonoscopy, an anesthesia accident that leaves the dentist dead on the operating table for several minutes. Once revived, he can suddenly see ghosts, and this development is not lost on Frank who befriends Bertram hoping to sabotage his widow Gwen's (Tea Leoni) impending remarriage to a conniving attorney (Billy Campbell).Although Bertram is a misanthrope not inclined to do anything for anybody, he promises to help prevent her from walking down the aisle. In return, Frank agrees to keep all the other ghosts suddenly annoying Bertram at bay. However, what neither anticipates is that Bert might develop feelings for Gwen, and the love quadrangle which ensues is the hub around which Ghost Town revolves. Cute movie makes you realize time is short, and the things you do can affect everyone you know even if it is a stranger.Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)Read full review
Funny, romantic, thought provoking. Flat lining for 7 minutes, he wakes-up with the ability to see ghosts, who need him to help them, but he's not the helpful kind of medium we're used to seeing, he's the kind that is annoyed by needful people, both dead and alive. I have to say, I couldn't put it down. Hehehe - lovely. I just can't do it justice with my review, there's so much to entertain you, did I mention any stinky mummies?

Ghost Town is a charming movie about a solitary dentist who has a life altering event that enables him to see ghosts. Ricky Gervais brings this role to life with a dry British humor as he does his best to avoid the spirits. After a series of events he falls for the widow of one of the ghosts and finds out he does not want the solitude any more.
My husband and I both enjoyed this movie. We particularly liked the overall message - that living your life for others will make it more rich, meaningful, "worthwhile," etc., than just living life for oneself. I think the acting is superb and also funny at times. I love how well the main character drives this point home with his own life! This movie isn't typical and I like how uniquely it's put together.
