I'm a huge fan of Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles (of which, the Black Cauldron is one. All of the characters in this movie belong to Alexander) and I also love Disney. I wanted to see how the movie was, having heard both opinions that it was awful and ones that it was pretty good. As a movie in and of itself, it's actually not that bad. It's not like many of Disney's old movies- it doesn't have any singing (but doe have a score written by the same guy who did the score for Ghostbusters!) and it is actually pretty dark for a Disney film. In terms of accuracy to the books, it's way off in left field; some major characters were left out, locations were jumbled and the Cauldron Born are hardly in the movie at all. If you';re one of those really hardcore book people who hates movies who stray from the books, don't watch it. But, if you just want to watch a silly little movie with more action in it than a typical Disney movie, then it's no worse than other Disney movies.Read full review
This Disney animated movie is well done and has an interesting plot line making it a movie that many kids want to watch over and over. The movie is about a boy who is protecting a special pig and is full of action.
