Butcher's long-running wizard/noir stories come to an enthralling climax in this pivotal point in the all the character's lives. Changes is well titled in that Butcher presents the same world, characters, and how they interact with each other, but he takes the formula for his series and turns it upside down. Any avid reader of the series knows that there are certain recurrences in each and every novel, and I, personally, was beginning to hang my head whenever I picked up the latest one and had to hear the description of Harry's apartment or car for the sixteenth time. Butcher seems to have admitted to his repetitive disposition and torn himself, as well as the reader, away from what they were comfortable with, giving the series the "changes" it truly needed. Harry's journey has always been a challenging one, not to mention a dark one. In Changes, however, he faces his greatest struggles yet. His morals have been unbelievably steadfast as he's done exactly what he knows to be right throughout the series. However, the questions of right and wrong, good and evil, have never before been grayer as Harry makes life-altering decisions that will, no doubt, have lasting effects for the rest of the series. And that, is what makes this one of Butcher's most elegant tales to date.Read full review
I love Butcher's Dresden Files series! I call them "action books" haha! (And I don't care for many action movies.) But it's terribly exciting to read these books which move so quickly without my trying! But beware-they are addicting! I like how Harry Dresden is not perfect but he is endearing. By this book, #12 in the series, the plots are getting darker, but there is still some release because Harry is such a smart ass! I love it. If you like fast paced magical suspenseful stories with a touch of humor, you'll like these. But be sure to start with the first book, Storm Front, as the background story progresses with each book. And Changes has one hell of an ending! You'll most certainly have to get the next book (Ghost Story).

I love the series. Jim Butcher has created a very addicting read with the Harry Dresden Files. Every book ties into the ones before it and the plot thickens with each chapter, so good in fact that it rivals great detective stories like Sherlock Holmes. I actually purchased this book as a gift for my friend's birthday because he already has books 1-11 and if not for him I never would have gotten into this series. Can't wait for Jim to finish it so I can buy a box set and have a great read for 20 days, the predicted end of the series.
Fast paced mixture of fantasy, horror, and great detective novel ! Addictive series. Great get-a-way. Every novel is as good or better than the last.
