The Serpent Power was a San Francisco folk-rock band whose music and/or lyrics was based on David Meltzer's poetry. The song "Up and Down," which is the best track here, appears on Love Is the Song We Sing: San Francisco Nuggets, 1965-1970. Nothing else on The Serpent Power attracts me including the 13:14 raga-rock tune "Endless Tunnel." In the end, the CD has too much sappy flower power and too little Serpent Power for me. Moving on. No text. Original liner notes which throws in some Meltzer poems.
