I purchased this set as a memory of my childhood. Godzilla as a cartoon was something I remember from Saturday morning cartoons, although I remember the weird theme song and the strange little Godzilla cousin (Godzookey) far more than anything else. The shows themselves are straightforward fare for that day and age. The same artists that brought us Superfriends and Star Trek : The Animated Series are behind this series, as well as the writers. Most every episode involves the same basic premise - the crew of the oceanic survey vessel Calypso, complete with a flying dinosaur, run into trouble, usually in the form of a large monster or trap. Either Godzookey or the ship's captain then summon their big gun - the atomic lizard known as Godzilla, and the battle is joined. There are usually two solid Godzilla vs. Monster Of The Week battles in each episode, and the resolutions are mixed between Godzilla's brawn or the crew's brains saving the day. The show is campy, but I noted that almost 30 years after having seen them the first time, I still could remember bits of the episodes. And the theme song was really one of the better ones made by this company. If you just want some simple entertainment, or you want your kids to enjoy a slice of mid- to late- 70's cartoon work, this is a good show to share with them. (Although I'd recommend you add in Space Ghost, the Herculoids, and School House Rock for the entire experience.)Read full review
The quality was top notch and I was happy to get the dvds. I just think it’s a little overpriced. The third volume is over $315 in some places for five 20 min episodes. Thankfully it was little cheaper for volume one and volume two. Don’t think I will ever buy the 3rd volume due to the cost.

The 1954 Japanese film classic GODZILLA forms the basis of this action-packed 1978 cartoon series. Produced by the classic team of Hanna-Barbera, the cartoon fashions a kindler, gentler version of the giant, fire-breathing lizard as he and his young charge, Godzooky, help the crew of an oceanic research vessel battle natural disasters and a wild assortment of sea monsters. Fun and nostalgic, this collection presents the series' second volume of episodes.
I remember my brother watching these a long time ago, and thought they would be great for my son to introduce him to Godzilla. These cartoons are perfect for little kids who may be afraid of the Godzilla in the movies.
