Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages, nicknamed "SWBYP'S" (pronounced swa-bips), was formed in 1984 upon the breakup of AT & T.In 1995, Southwestern Bell Corp. changed its name to SBC Communications, and SWBYP'S was largely unaffected. In 1999, SBC completed its acquisition of Pacific Telesis, Ameritech, and SNET, and added "SBC" branding to its companies. The SWBYP'S nickname went by the wayside, in favor of Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages. The last year SWBYP'S were branded Southwestern Bell came in 2001, when "SBC" was added to the company names SBC owned, and SWBYP'S became known as SBC Southwestern Bell Yellow Pages.
