Make no mistake about the fact that this is the premier work in its field with priod editions having become collectible for the useful information contained therein. But, perfection is not without it's problems. The Bad News While the book has remained a good size (old fashioned pulp magazine size - Approximately 6" x 9")and it IS printed on high quality slick paper, the book is unwieldy in several respects. It is no longer a one hander read in bed book. It weighs WAY too much. At roughly 3 and a half pounds, you will find that belly fatigue will set in quickly. The size of the type is just getting too small for my tired old eyes. My wife asked if I can actually read it and I said sure, but it is getting difficult. I would have preferred if each comic could be listed separately even if there is no famous artist or origin in that particular issue, but we must face the fact that some comic issues are just plain mediocre compared to their surrounding counterparts. Thus listing issues 3-7 together prevent me from using this work as a check list, but do give me the rundown on the entire comic world, not just one of the Ages. The Good News You will not find any 10 resources for this hobby combined with any more useful information and throughgoing completeness. End of Story. It covers the subject matter in terrific detail (How to tell all the Classics Illustrated Comics editions and printings apart, for example) and goes back to cave drawings almost literally in it's historic perspective. Perhaps the publishers will consider a future 2 volume edition or a larger format. I think the current book is maxed out. Recommendation If you would pick this book up in the store to even consider looking at it, you will be hooked (or are already and just don't know it). Just buy it. You need it, you want it, you MUST have it. --Review by Roy Lee EvansRead full review
The Overstreet Price Guide is an invaluable tool if you collect or need to grade your comics or to take along while tagging or going to the flea markets. This copy was an excellent replacement for my last which was 5 years old.Of course, it is always wise to use extra care on key comics values as they tend not to be reflected as up to date as one would like.
I LOVE HOW EASY IT IS TO FIND WHAT YOU WANT TO LOOK UP. I LOVE THE PICTURES AND THE ADS IN CASE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING. THE PRICE FOR THIS BOOK IS NICE TOO.
