i've seen this movie on tv and even have a version of it in on a compilation dvd but this is the first time i've seen it as it was intended to be seen, this is the restored and uncut original version,looks good sound quality is excellent il's a great addition to my collection if you like classic movies andyou've never seen it or if you have and want to see it as it was meant to be seen then by all means get this movie

The movie gives a more traditional view of men in combat than that presented in today's war films. There is more focus on the characters & less on the special effects and the bloody reality of war fought with twentieth century technology. It certainly has its action scenes, but they are filmed in the style more in keeping with that of the 1940's, where American soldiers were the heroes, not butchers. In that respect it might be a little "corny," but it is nice to have our Nation's armed forces pictured in a more positive light. The real difference in this movie, that makes it so entertaining to watch, is the interaction and dialogue of the characters. They come across as more "real" (with the exception of the absence of male profanity, which is common on the battlefield). Some of the characters are average "Joe's" who don't see themselves as heroes, except when they are called on to be so, and some have weaknesses that come out when the stress of combat is upon them. I really enjoyed this movie and if you are looking far more than lots of death, destruction, and spectacular special effects, I think you will too.Read full review
