I bought this book because I am curious about the field of archaeology, and have been pleased with other books from the publisher Facts on File. This is a very readable introduction to the nuts and bolts of the Archaeologist's profession. It discusses the history of archaeology and provides an exellent discussion of the tools used and how field work is conducted. It is illustrated with clear photographs and contains examples of charts and grids used in the work. I would recommend this book to the interested adult reader and the older high school student. The only drawback I find the the very small type size which is a bit hard on the eyes.
