Since its release, the film has been one of my all time favourites. The powerful storyline, the images and scenery and of course - the music. "Mother Africa" is a tearjerking, heartrending yet inspiring and motivating theme tune and this song alone personifies the raw power of not only the film but of Africa itself. For anyone who has ever felt insignificant or struggled with their own identity or purpose, this movie and its soundtrack was meant for you to look beyond the on screen imagery and music and listen to the message behind it. The music reaches the tempos necessary to accurately the lives and troubles of Africa and yet still manages to celebrate in all that is good about the continent. An exciting mix of Hans Zimmer music combined with solo artists Lebo M and Teddy Pendergrass and also the voices of the Bulawayo church choir all come together powerfully bringing back memories of the key moments of the movie and this soundtrack always lingers in my memory, never more so than when I was recently climbing Kilimanjaro and needed an extra bit of motivation. If you have ever seen a stunning African sunrise then you will know the raw power it can bring to the downhearted, this soundtrack has a similar effect although undoubtedly you really need to see the movie as well to fully appreciate it.Read full review
