I recently involved myself with the Blood Type plan and was happy to read this book, which expands and explains this emerging way of life. I was happy to see more differentiation between blood types and have found it more helpful for me in my diet and exercise routine. The book was accurate in the time it takes to "figure out" which type one falls under. If one takes the time to do everything stated "step by step", it is quite easy to get the correct result. But because three ways are presented to obtain a result, it can confuse a person who wants to just jump into all the charts hoping to quickly get the correct answer.
As a weight-loss consultant and fitness instructor, I try to read anything in the diet/fitness arena. Not only do I always look for tools to help others with weight management and overall health, but it is always interesting to ponder on my own specific health recommendations if possible. But as most people reading Genotype will attest, I just don't have time to think about eating a bunch of liver, fish I can't pronounce, etc. The book didn't provide REASONS for eating the very limited list of "superfoods", nor did it provide any type of suggestions/recipes for accomodating a family (I have four kids). My husband and I had totally opposite foods recommended, which would be very difficult to implement. I think I'll stick to the common sense approach: eat frugally (nothing wasted- only nutritious foods in quantities my body can use), easy on processed foods, and keep exercising as I have for 20 years. I have maintained a very healthy weight since my early twenties this way. If it ain't broke, why fix it, I say. Not too impressed...Read full review
I started off with the Blood Type Diet, this is more in depth and thorough. This book is like an instruction manual for your body based on your Genotype. Figure out your genotype (another reviewer was even too lazy to do that!), and boom - there is your instruction manual for your body. Follow the diet strictly and Boom - 20 pounds fell off in 8 weeks. Fall off the diet and welcome bloating and gas and an upset stomach. Once you start eating right for your type cheating is hard - you feel like crud! Eat right and you will never have gas or bloating or an upset stomach. Weight just falls off, energy levels surge. I feel like i have found the fountain of youth and want to tell the world. Following this is practically like a religion because you want to tell everyone how fabulous you feel.
The book is actually easy to follow. The author has writen it in a simplistic way. So, that people can gain in knowlege the information that is delivered within it's pages. It seems more complex than it is. However, once you start to feel familar with the concepts it becomes very easy to understand & follow. I am enjoying very much! Janice Viesel
If every person were to spend time with this book, discovering more about their bodies, and having the discipline to follow their diet for your type, they would find themselves feeling better, with the bonus of losing weight. I have an underactive thyroid, meaning my metabolism is extremely sluggish. I'm also just under 5' tall. It's not an easy diet to follow when you have to eliminate foods and additives that have become so common to us all. But I promise that if you do this for a few months and heed the fact that there are foods that are bad for your body type, you'll never go back to your old way of eating. I began this in order to detox my body, but lost 10 pounds in a month. Many physical problems have been eliminated. If you have the discipline, this is the book for you
