For a 1977 production at Bayreuther Festspiele this is a knock out production. I can believe Richard Wagner would have been proud to be there and see it. Amazing how these operas get more interesting with time. Although he had made his building around "Der Ring" the technology of his day was a far cry from what we have now, and what's to come. I'm an opera lover from childhood in Canada, on Saturday afternoons the Texaco broadcasts from the Met. My mother, and her father a priest from Norway, somehow got excited to watch, and hear all of the great ones from Italy, France, Russia, and Germany. Because my parents and grandparents spoke Norwegian, they had an easy time understanding the German of this series. Sadly, my one year in college wasn't enough to help me very much, so I appreciate the subtitles. I tend to flip from the German, to the English subtitles whenever the mood makes it right. We highly recommend this one as an easy one to use, especially for those who might not have any prior experience with opera, or at least on DVD. Enjoy, RR Read full review
