Vidia and the Fairy Crown by Laura Driscoll - DISNEY ******For Girls from Disney ******** FAIRIES************ This book Vidia and the Fairy Crown is from a new series on Fairies by Disney & published by Random House. Playing on the current popularity of fairies we are introduced to Pixie Hollow. Pixie Hollow is located in Neverland, you know where that is: Just head towards the second star and fly straight on 'til morning. A big old maple tree grows in Pixie Hollow & in it live hundreds of fairies & sparrow men. There is of course TINK or Tinkerbell of Peter Pan fame. She is a feisty little pixie! You will meet Beck who loves animals, Lily who loves the gardens, and there is Vidia who is sly & sarcastic. This book features Vidia. Vidia is selfish & mean, & never has a kind word to say. She lives ironically in the sour plum tree, all alone! The only thing she seems to care about is being fast & she is already the fastest fairy in Pixie Hollow. Now Vidia has been accused of stealing the queen's tiara. Did she do it? She is in a race against time now to prove her innocence & clear her name. Softcover book has 128 pages & some beautiful illustrations. The book is illustrated by Judith Holmes Clark & the Disney Storybook Artists. The illustrations are delightful & you can certainly see the Disney touch. The cover even has a little "pixie dust" sparkle to it! I believe these books were written for about 7-9 years of age. Of course the appeal is much more to girls than boys. I would think 2nd & 3rd grade is age appropriate. The book is called a stepping stone book. I am not exactly sure what that means, but my educated guess is that this new series is a stepping stone in between real simple books & harder chapter books. I purchased for one of my granddaughters. Great gifts for Christmas, birthday or anytime. I highly recommend the book.Read full review
