I am a big fan of Richard Dean Anderson and he is fantastic in Stargate! The main characters are equally fantastic in their own unique way. This sci-fi mixes military, fantasy, sci-fi and human interest. I'll be buying all 8 seasons

I have been a fan of the SciFi genre since Rod Serling's "Twilight Zone." Over the years, its incarnations on television have ranged from the excellent to the mediocre. The trouble is even the good ones don't get a decent break on the networks. Either you're an instant hit or you get moved around all over the schedule making it difficult for those who do watch to keep up; or you're canceled. Enter SG-1. I enjoyed the movie but wondered if it was a good premise for a television series. Independently produced, which used to imply lower production values, the cast included a has been soap opera guy and a bunch of unknowns. How good could it be? I never got a chance to watch a full episode of the show when it originally aired a decade ago and only caught a few snippets of it while channel surfing. I was doing an ebay search for SciFi material when I ran across an auction for SG-1's first season. The price seemed reasonable. So, I place a bid, won and wow. The movie plot line opened up unlimited possibilities for a team of talented and imaginative writers to explore. Thanks to upgraded technology, a high quality staff and MGM's apparent willingness to spend a little money, the production values come off as second to none. And the actors? This soap opera guy, the unknowns, and their support cast have brought real life into their characters, the stories, and the show. The whole thing has been a pleasant surprise for me. I'm in love with Dr. Frasier and Nya. I think you'll love them too as well as the rest of the series.Read full review

Since I came a little late to the Stargate party, I've been slowly buying up collections of each season and viewing each episode. What an exciting series! This first season takes off where the movie ended but with different albeit excellent actors. As much as you enjoyed Richard Dean Anderson in "McGyver," you will enjoy his wry wit and resourcefulness here as Colonel Jack O'Neill, the leader of SG-1 whose explorations and exploits are the basis for the television series. The other main characters, Dr. Daniel Jackson (played by Michael Shanks), Captain Samantha "Sam" Carter (played by Amanda Tapping) and Teal'c (played by Christopher Judge) form a cohesive unit as they work to defend Earth against the Goa'uld, a parasitic race that uses human beings for "hosts." Each episode explores other worlds but also the bonds of friendship and loyalty between the team members and serves to allow the viewer to get to know them. Highly recommended!!Read full review
I bought a Stargate - Season 1 gift set on DVD for my wife for Christmas. She is a big fan of the T.V. show and had mentioned that she would like to be able to go back and watch her favorite episodes at her convenience, so I purchased the gift set for her along with other Stargate season gift sets and I am glad I did. The quality of the video is at least as good as it is on T.V. and it is so nice to not have to sit through commercials or pause the show whenever we need to. On top of all this, the bonus features make an interesting addition to the shows themselves.
