The subtitle of this book is A Dictionary of Named and Unnamed Women in the Hebrew Bible, the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical Books, and the New Testament. This 592-page reference work is divided into three main parts: I. Named Women; II. Unnamed Women; and III. Female Deities and Personifications. Entries in Named Women and in Female Deities and Personifications are in alphabetical order. Entries in Unnamed Women are in order of appearance in the scriptures. While I have sampled only a couple entries in each part, the entries appear to be both comprehensive in content and even-handed in approach. Most entries are cross-referenced and major entries have a list for further reading. Illustrations are few and are black-and-white; they are quite pertinent. The list of contributors is impressive. There are introductory articles and an extensive bibliography. Whether you are intensively studying Biblical women, looking up material for Bible studies or sermons, or just curious, you're sure to find much of interest in this reference work.Read full review
