"Broadway's Golden Age" is a treasure trove of classic Broadway memories (accompanied by film clips and photos) by the people who were there. Many of the actors who originated the most famous roles were alive when this movie was skillfully crafted by Rick McKay. He interviews all the greats (Carol Channing, Patricia Morrison, Ben Gazarra, Julie Harris, Carol Burnett and many, many more). Their stories about those who are gone give those of us who long for Broadway as it was, a vision of performances that are now lost, like Laurette Taylor in Glass Menagerie, and Kim Stanley in "Bus Stop", not to mention Ethel Waters singing "Suppertime". I loved the stories about how the working actors used to live in humble circumstances, meeting at Walgreen's Drug store and "Second-Acting" (crashing shows in the second act without paying). In short, if you are a Broadway lover and wistfully long for a time when Broadway had original stories, music and no microphones (!), then you will LOVE this DVD.Read full review
‹(•¿•)›¨¯¯¨¨˜"ª¤ RICK MCKAY’S THE BEST ¤ª"˜¨¨¯¯¨‹(•¿•)› I love the movies but there’s nothing like the live entertainment of the theatre. Those of us who were so fortunate to experience some of these original performances will love BROADWAY THE GOLDEN AGE. You’ll wish you could go back in time again. Listening to the music on a cd is grand but Mr. McKay’s tremendous undertaking enables all of us to feel like we are there, again!. I laughed, I cried, I felt like I was rubbing elbows with the stars. It’s a wonderful experience to watch again and again. Why aren’t we taping one performance of every production since then? This is our history and we need to preserve today’s theatre too. Thank you Mr. McKay. You are a champion of documentaries.
Friend told me about this. After seeing it once, have seen it 5 times. So touching to see legends talk about days gone bye. So heartfelt to see broadway legends talk about shows now only in memories. Truely a treasure to anyone who values broadway. Higjly recommend.

Great documentary about the Golden Age of Broadway. Didn't know actors like Marlon Brando, James Dean, Robert Redford, and others started out on Broadway.
