One of my all time favorite Christmas movies. I love the time period this is set in, can relate to that one perfect Christmas present wish, how to plant the seeds that will get me that gift in my parents minds, the entire kid-social-interactions that play out throughout the movie, the traditional husband\wife\kids interactions. I also enjoy the regular voice over the movie has...so much fun! My second favorite movie of this nature is the Sandlot. Both are excellent, uplifting, family movies toddlers to senior citizens wil enjoy. This wont be a waste of money. Oh, and if you are worried about the dvd picture quality that others complain about...dont. It plays fine. It is not blu-ray quality...but I personally think the good quality but not perfect quality of the video actually lends itself to me enjoying the movie watching experience MORE due to the time period this was set in.Read full review
This is one of the best Christmas Classics, I grew up watching this movie. I really loved it when they started puting in on for 24hr on Xmas Eve. But that was the only time it was on at all on christmas, now I can watch it when ever I need a good laugh. You don't think it's funny, I triple dog dare you to watch this movie and not laugh at any time of the year. Everybody knows the Christmas story. It'll never die, You'll Shoot Your Eye Out, ha ha ha ha. How could that not be worth buying. All kids should grow up watching this movie at christmas. Now that I'm almost 30 I still love, just more than I did when I was a kid. A must have for any home.
12 reasons why A Christmas Story is a modern Classic! 12: "Fa-Ra-Ra-Ra-Ra Ra-Ra-Ra-Ra" 11: "Don't forget to drink your Ovaltine" 10: "Nadafinga!!" 9: Ralphie's pink bunny outfit 8: Scut Farkus' yellow eyes 7: "Fuuuuuuuudddggee" 6: "Randy...how do the little piggies eat?" 5: "Fra-Gi-Le...it must be Italian" 4: "Where's the glue?" "We're out of glue!" "You used up all the glue on purpose!!" 3: "I triple-dog dare ya!" 2: "Alright, I'll get that kid to eat. Where's my screw driver and my plumber's helper? I'll open up his mouth and I'll shove it in". ... and, of course, the #1 reason: "You'll shoot your eye out, kid!" A Christmas classic and tradition in every sense of the word! On the other hand, much like it's predecessors in classic Christmas movie-dom, you either love this movie....or you absolutely hate it.Read full review
The con was this: The product said actress Melinda Dillion was also supposed to be part of the commentary part of the special features. She was not in the commentary track nor anywhere else on the DVD features beyond being in the movie. I consider the label of her in the commentary as false advertising or sloppy work of people putting this DVD and features together.

This movie is a must have for everyone of the Boomer Generation and otherwise. Set in the 1950's it's a great story about a little boy named Ralphie who wants a Red Rider BB gun for Christmas. Ralphie and his brother Randy go through the childhood life of the average child in that era, with such detail it will take you back to when you were a kid. The family is great, the comedy is great, it is a family tradition for us to watch this movie every year.
