While there is really no need to "Unplug" Bob Dylan, this CD still has much to offer. It is a smooth compilation of some of the best loved Dylan songs out there. It is interesting to me, the contrast between his older recordings and his more recent ones. His voice, which was already well known for its feeling and depth, has aged well with time. There is plenty to love about this CD. It reminded me of the musical arrangements he had played when I saw him about two years ago. I recommend this CD for any Dylan fan and also for someone who may just want a nice collection of his best.
A great collection of Bob Dylan's favorite hits thrown in with a few previous unrecorded gems. You may be taken back at first by some of the recordings during this session because they are not carbon-copies of his songs from the 60's but when you let yourself get past that expectation you will find a lot more elements to enjoy and appreciate. Dylan's voice seems to have 3 distinct sounds, the nasal, the midwestern and the seductive giving the impression that sometimes a trio is singing. The instrumental elements are equally impressive in this live recording adding strength or calmness when needed. DESOLATION ROW is speeded up by 2 minutes over the original version which I find more enjoyable. WITH GOD ON OUR SIDE seems to be just as relevant now as ever and Dylan's voice seems to be a genuine plea for the end of this kind reasoning for justifing war. A very enjoyable CD that I would recommend to everyone.Read full review
