I halfway expected that in this book, the sequel to The Relic, they would discover that there was a second monster, and the sequel would be a replay of the first book. Not so. The plot is very different but flows well from the first book. The best thing the authors could have done to pique my interest in this book was exactly what they did......... On the inside front flap of the dust cover they inscribe the following: REL-I-QUARY relic-wary (n): A shrine or coffer for displaying an object, bone, or body part from a saint or deity. PERFECT, otherwise who knew that reliquary actually had a significant meaning? The description of the New York underground is both fascinating and chillingly sinister at the same time. The authors did their homework and much of their description is apparently based on fact. There is a reference to a real book published in the 1990s that documents life beneath New York City. The shocking revelation near the end of the book wasn't entirely believable to me, but it's a minor quibble. This book was one long skin crawly ride into the netherworlds beneath New York City.... I couldn't put it down! After reading the 'Relic' and seeing the movie, I was delighted to read the sequel 'Reliquary'. I was amazed at the underworld civilization they created in all its primeval glory, and the involuntary creepy feeling they maintained through out the journey in it. The fact that the cast of characters has remained the same, and because it's the characters that make the story come alive hold throughout the Pengergrast series. A must read for anyone who likes being scared to death, a real amusement park ride into a culture in the dark, a religion of sorts and the mystery that is stellar.Read full review
Delivering a sequel to the book, Relic. Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child gives us a twisted tale that only gets more deadlier then the first time. In fact, it is so deadly of a tale that the reader realizes the fragile situation. Men and their egos; they can do great harm. The tale touches one real situation. It is acknowledged by the writers that there is life in the basement. We can hide from it but it is there simply because ... There is a lovely part told about something from the past. A legend? A story from the past? A reality of men with money may have tried to escape from daily contact with common men. I would never want to give away the plot of any book. This one will twist you left and right. Why? To save the world? To give concern with unchecked researchers? To make justice possible? To aid the lost ... or is it to late for the rest of us? Time will tell. Time always has time on it's side.Read full review
Preston and Child write great adventure and suspence novels. This one is no different,a great sequel to the Relic! I love the fast pace and multiple story lines. I read everyday, and usually finish a book a week,so price is important to me. E-bay offers quality books at a great value. When a book arrives I order another one, so when I finish the first, the second is there. It's a great way to build your library. Oldcatfisherman
Intense, fast paced, and totally unexpected characters. Pendergast is mysterious and investigates similar to Sherlock Holmes. Reliquary continues the story Relic, with a lot of the same characters .
