MAKES A GREAT GIFT! Rabbi Telushkin has done a favor for us all with his learned book of Jewish history, rituals, ethics and life. Scholarly and fair, witty and fun to read, this is a reference for serious research and casual curiosity. Telushkin provides information, insight, flavor and vignette. Sure he's unstintingly erudite, but he's also an exceptional raconteur. In this collection of 346 important facts about Judaism and its people, Telushkin ranges through all of Jewish history and literature to extract the enduring concepts one needs to know in order to be a well-informed, modern Jew
Very insightful, compelling reading, not dry or boring. I am enjoying this book immensely.

I purchased this book to give as a gift for someone recently converted to Judaism and it was VERY well received and appreciated. The material contained within covers a myriad of subjects - all thought provoking - and is concisely organized. A very interesting find, suitable for a wide range of ages and degrees of Jewish religious observance, as well as for non-Jews, too. Highly recommended.
I barrowed the revised edition from our local library, and found it a valuable resource. I went cheap and bought the original, which is helpful too, but I must admit that the newer is lovlier in its layout.
