This book took me a lot longer to get through than the other books from her that I've read. By the time that Essex shows up in her life, I was more than ready for the book to be over. Usually, Ms. Weir keeps me well entertained and ready to race through her narative. Several items got confusing, happening that were repeated or didn't match with other authors that I have read on the subject. It was a good book, but not one of her best.
Weir is probably the best writer of British history from the Battle of Hastings to the end of the Tudors. She backs up her work with plenty of notes and references, includes family trees for clarity, and writes clearly. And there are pictures too. Clearly the truth is more interesting than fiction and no one does it better than Alison Weir.
