This movie was entertaining - mostly because it was very different from your typical superhero movie. However, I would not recommend this movie to small children. In my opinion, the graphic violence and sexual content was a bit too much for a movie based on a comic which many young people who will regretably and unknowingly view. Beyond this the movie has a good story line and the ending really made me think about the possible cost for world peace.
I bought the Watchmen - Motion Comics just out of curiousity- I originally bought(and still own)the mid 1980's Watchmen comic maxi-series,so when this came out(right before the Watchman movie premiere)I decided to buy it. At 5 1/2 hours it goes through the entire series(all 12 issues)with limited(but pretty effective) animation, like my tittle says a comic book come to life. The only real complaint I have is that one man does the voices-and I mean ALL the voices-including the women, which is really strange sounding. Sidenote: Alan Moore's name dosen't show up at all in the credits even though he was the writer and co-creator of the characters- Basically because that's the ways he wants it.
I have read the graphic novel at least 6 times. Seeing it animated and read to me brought out points I had missed. It was well produced, and not over animated. Great job to sticking to the original rendition. I gave it a Good instead of Excellent, because of the narration. The narrator did a fine job, even changed his voices a bit for the characters, but I think a feminine voice to handle the ladies would have been more helpful. A seperate voice for Dr. Manhattan would have been impressive, also. All and all, well worth watching.
If you can invest watching all 5 and a half hours watching this (it is in chapters). My only complaint is that the voices are done by ONE man only. But it's kinda grown on me. If you can get past this, it's amazing to see comic panels in motion. For purists, there are random little things cut out. For example, the opening monologue from Rorschach.

Was not aware this even existed until i looked up the live action one that came out bout the same time. i really enjoyed it although the actors voicing the characters in this 12 episode series began to ware on me in their drawn out monition showing very little pitch or feeling in their pro trail of the character. the live act movie one of the best as far as sticking to the book/comic this was even more dead on. was lucky enough to get the dvd in very good condition used off ebay for only 99 cents - what a bargin as eddie murphy used to say
