Excellent book by Richard Wolffe, who followed President Obama when he was Senator Obama on the presidential campaign trail. Richard Wolffe's style of writing is marvelous - this is not a stuffy or hard to read book. It reads much like a novel and is filled with facts that are verifiable (sources are included in the back)as well as campaign trail anecdotes. A great read for both history buffs and those who want to know a little more about our 44th President and First Lady.
As Michiko Kakutani wrote in The New York Times, Wolffe depicts Barack Obama “as a clutch player, who, like Michael Jordan, lives for Game 7 of the finals. He likes getting into his opponents’ heads (though without talking a lot of trash), thinks of himself, in Mr. Wolffe’s words, as ‘a playmaker’ who can ‘direct the game and outsmart his opponents,’ and he knows how to raise his game when it counts.” When it comes to the media, Obama seems to reach for less-extended metaphors, likening the intense scrutiny to “a public colonoscopy.”
Like so many others, I was captivated with the 2008 Presidential campaign. Barack Obama was my favorite candidate and I love Richard Wolffe. This book was quite an interesting read, not a 'gotcha' type, though if you are looking for Richard to drop the dirt on the opponents!
