When I first watched the movie on TV, I fell in love with it. I received a video of the movie for Christmas, about four years back. My Son was looking for this, very difficult to find. I bought it for him. As a youngster I used to ride horses and cowboy for a gentleman here in Texas. When we worked cattle we (his son and a friend of us both) would spend the night before in an old ranch house and in the morning long before daylight the owner would come out and prepare breakfast for us and at daylight we would be in the saddle and go out and " round them up ". My son is 28 and he loves this movie also. The actors in this movie are excellent, they have cowboyed some themselves. This son of mine is a Coach and Texas History teacher in a middle school and has showed the movie to his class. This is a excellent movie. I mainly purchased this movie because it has a REAL Texas Ranger, named Joaquin Jackson in it. Joaquin wrote One Ranger and One Ranger returns and is a true epitome of a real Texas Ranger from the 20th century. You actually get to see him in three speaking parts and he is a legend. Just to see him in person is a real thrill. Also the movie itself is a very good movie with a very real message about the character of Texans. It is most unfortunate this has not been reproduced on DVD because so many people no longer won a VHS and that is the only way it may be purchased. I highly recommend this movie for either or both reasons. Ranger Jackson (in action being himself) or the very good story)!
Best movie I've seen in years. Tommy Lee Jones and Sissy Spacek play excellent roles and this movie not only depicts the turn of the century for the end of the cowboy era but really how important it is to love someone for who they are and not try to change them. Sometimes it means to let them go to pursue who they are. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
This was an awesome movie made from an awesome book. Tommy Lee Jones is absolutely terrific and fits the role perfectly. The same for Sissy. Both are just wonderful. If you enjoy a really good Western, I would highly recommend this movie. Too bad it is not available in DVD with some "extras."
Tommy Lee Jones, a gifted actor performs the role of a non-complicated cowboy with perfection as simple as a lovable Good Old Boy that makes one desire to exhibit the characteristics of a man of integrity, humor, and solidity. A movie that the entire family can enjoy.
