This story, by Whedon and Cassaday, is probably the best X-Men tale since the late '80s, and maybe ever, with a lot of X-history behind it. I have read it many times before in its other collected formats. I am pleased to have purchased this item in one volume of Marvel's deluxe Omnibus format, the story reads very well in the one large presentation, though the omnibus itself does have some shortcomings. The omnibus' features are not as good as the others that I have had the pleasure to read. The collected materials at the back is pretty thin and generally not up to Marvel Omnibus standards. Having said this the short history of the X-Men, X-Men 101, at the front of the story is probably pretty good in helping many readers who are not over fifty, and reading the now many X-titles since young adulthood, to follow the complicated X-history presented in this story. In short, a highly enjoyable Marvel Omnibus X-Men story collection with a below average features section in the back.Read full review
One of the best X men Run of thoses last 10 years in one book. What else do you need. The story is great and the pencil by Cassaday is very accurate. About the quality of that Omnibus: The quality of the paper is good but the sewing is not perfect.
What's to say that's not been said? Whedon and Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men has set an incredibly high bar for any team willing to tackle our bleoved mutants. Sharp, witty, gripping and, above all, a phenomenal story with jaw-dropping art that'll make you wish it were more than just the 26 issues. The omnibus is absolutely gorgeous, with behins the scenes art, fnny (as ever) Joss e-mails, a very revealing interview with John Cassaday... Buy it. You're in good hands.
