Bought this used computer, and bought and replaced back cover, screen bezel, palm rest, keyboard, keyboard bezel and base cover, and also bought and installed SSD, WiFi/WiMax, GOBI2000 with GPS, and e-GPU kit from hwtools dot net. Battery time shows 6:45. Upgraded to latest BIOS v1.40. Total money spent: 600 USD. Now it looks like new. This laptop with Debian GNU/Linux is prefect. Seller gave 8 GB RAM instead of 4 GB as in description. Thanks! :D

I'm guessing the hard drive cover is too big. It runs faster after adding a couple ready boost devices. But - it will occasionally shut down on me or not even load due to the hard drive not being found. I let it sit overnight turned it on again and it was working... This could be primarily my fault in how I use the device. I've been carrying it around in my backpack where it gets exposed to low temperatures. Also You might want headphones with it. The speakers are very very quiet and scratchy. You could use dollar store earbuds as better speakers. Besides those two main issues it runs great! Standard battery time (5hrs active use) for a laptop of this quality. It's got a good OS capable of running most of my games efficiently with no-minimal lag. I can write code on it as well with no issues. Bright screen no scratches or internal dust. It has a live usb port to which I can charge my phone even while the laptop is off and charging Over heats occasionally. just put it on a glass or finished wood surface...Something that absorbs the heat. I can run three to four individual windows while playing a hardware tasking game like skyrim or age of mythology. Really overall - for the cost it's a great device.Read full review

This computer works well. LIKES The touchscreen, webcam, microphone, keyboard all work as intended. This computer is very fast, and boots up in 30 seconds. Even intensive computer programming applications run smoothly, and boot in about 30 seconds. The pen is very accurate, and I've been able to get very close to the edge of the screen with it. Battery life is about 3 hours. CAUTION I'd recommend this laptop, but ** make sure you get a 64-bit operating system, or you can't use more than 3GB of RAM, no matter how much you actually have installed **. MORE LIKES It's easy to upgrade the RAM and hard drive, there are compartments on the bottom of the laptop. This computer is speedier than other computers I've used. DISLIKES The touchpad, common to this model, is finnicky, but usable. It's small, but good enough for me. The speakers are on the bottom of the laptop. The graphics card is built-in and would be very hard to swap. A lot of 3-D games can't be played, or are missing bits of their graphics, and are laggy. The CTRL button is not in the lower left corner of the keyboard. Very awkward, for me. 4.5 STARSRead full review
This is such a great product! I use my laptop ... wait for it ... on my lap! It sits next to my recliner and is available at a moment to do a little work or check out something. My last two "laptops" have really been too big and too heavy for comfort, not to mention too hot. The X201 is just the right size and weight for easy use. I immediately disabled the touch pad (yuck!) and use either an external mouse or the brilliant touch point. I wish I had a touch stick on my desktop keyboard! I have occasion to take my laptop on the road for various reasons, including programming amateur radios at my local club and doing data entry for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The weight is great, the keyboard couldn't be better, and the screen is just big enough. Probably the best thing I did for myself was to get a Crucial brand solid state drive. Their kit made it easy. It now boots in seconds and is very snappy. The battery lasts hours, not perfect but good enough. I had one on which the display died. No obvious reason, just died. Poking around with the (easy to access) cables didn't help so I just found a replacement on eBay and swapped the drive over. Back in business with no loss. All ThinkPads are built like tanks for serious use. Not for gaming beyond Minecraft-level games but for other uses it can't be beat. Lack of an optical drive not a problem if there is another PC in the home to share. Highly recommended!Read full review
I am a writer, who owns an HP windos 7 computer and an Apple Macbook. Needed something that could withstand weather, shock, and at least be kid resistant (nothing is kid proof). So before I got rid of the Macbook I looked and was directed to this gem. Computer is built like a tank, from the rubberized exterior, to the drain holes in case of accidental spills. Boots rather fast, and the screen is a beauty to behold. The machine does not show its age, working faster, and efficient, and thanks to the fact it comes pre-loaded with Windows 7, not 8.1, it is reliable. The Wacom pen is an industry standard and this is what this machine uses. Anyone familiar with Wacom products will feel right at home using it, and those who aren't will find it is a cinch to use. So with 5 stars there can be some small issues that are not deal breakers. One is battery life, I get 3 hrs. It is the original battery, so it has seen service since 2010, few batteries that are 4 years old manage to still hold decent charge(may get a new one to extend battery use). Also remember this is an i7 processor, and the price for speed is less battery life. This leads to heat. And i7 processor will generate heat, and the heat sinks located on the left are efficient to the point of making it tolerable. Put it down every half hr or so to avoid discomfort. And last, but not least the track-pad is tiny. No biggie as you are expected to use the touchscreen. I found that it size was perfect for kid fingers. As I said, small things that, at least for me, are not deal breakers. So what about the price? A steal! When I told the service tech at the local electronics store I purchased one of these, at less than $300 he was stunned. So in summary, it is a workhorse that will withstand abuse, weather, and even kids. May not be a looker for those who seek the "gorgeous" computer experience, and if that is what you seek, look elsewhere (and prep yourself for sticker shock). If you do not mind the utilitarian, bat-computer stealthy looks, then this is the system for you.Read full review
