With due credit to Jean M. Auel this movie brings to life her engaging book Clan of the Cave Bear. Read the book!! Barring the one vicious sex scene, this movie is a good adaptation. Darryl Hannah is splendid as the character Ayla who survives and thrives the harsh reality of being different but trying to fit in. Puts an ancient perspective on bullying and the ancient nomadic lifestyle. Worth a watch.

A good movie that followed the book as best it could, I wish they would reboot the movie to include the whole story of Ayla after she leaves the clan, but all in all not bad for when it was made.

This was the first book of author Jean Auel's "Earth Children" series. It is the only book of the 6 book series which was made into a movie and I wish they would do the whole series as Jean spnt a lot of time researching early man and it shows in her books. The books & this movie is not only entertaining but informative about our first known human ancestors. Daryl Hannah plays "Eyla" the central character of these books and she is perfectly suited to the character she plays. It is about her struggle to survive with a group of cave dwellers which are different then herself as she is more advanced then the cave dwellers and they fear her and fear they will become extinct because of her kind of human. I WAIT for the next movie of this book series "Valley of The Horses"!!
Clan of the Cave Bear is my favorite book. I wasn't expecting much from the film and this is certainly not the worst way to spend an hour and a half. But that's about the most it has going for it. If I did not already know the book and characters, I would be lost. There is no character development; you don't get a chance to really meet/understant/much less love Ayla, Creb and Iza. Other characters may be mentioned once or twice, otherwise there is no mention of them. There's a really annoying voiceover that attempts to explain the plot and push the story, because the characters and their actions certainly don't move the story forward. Then there's the bad special affects and makeup. If you haven't read the book, this movie will not make you want to start reading. This film will give you an idea of some of the events that take place in the book (all out of sequence), but I would still recommend reading a Cliff/Sparks Notes version over watching this film. If you have read the book and have 90 minutes to spare I would recommend skimming your favorite parts and just forget about even bothering to watch this film.Read full review
Been at least 20 years since I saw the movie. It is good but Daryl is much better in Kill Bill Volume 2! I did not state any bad words you need to rewrite your AI code for slang words. Dah...
