These books are not only compelling for very young readers, their Spanish version has been highly recommended to me as a good way to ensure that Spanish heritage speakers in the USA learn to read Spanish well. This is a valuable recommendation, because translated children's books do not always capture children's speech levels easily.

I bought the book to read to my 3 1/2 year old granddaughter. I wanted to start reading her books with chapters. She loved it. Can't wait to get more. The chapters are small and we can read one and discuss it before reading more. If we put it down, we try to remember what we read before reading the next part. I think this is gonna be a great beginning series for her. They will also be good when she starts reading herself.
I got a great deal on ebay for 1-26 a gamble for my first grader who has a high reading level but doesn't choose to read when she doesn't have to. She devoured the first 13 and then slowed down. I've read they get a little more difficult as the series goes on but this first one is easy, fast paced, and fascinating. I did have to tell her a couple of the words the first time she came across them, mostly the dinosaur names. When she won the raffle at the book faire she picked this book and gave it to her reading buddy so you know she would definitely recommend it to a friend!
My daughter loves these books! She is 6 years old. The pictures are a huge plus for her. This series has really opened up a whole new world of reading for her: chapter books! Children don't even realize they are learning facts about dinosaurs (knights, mummies, etc.) because they are having so much fun reading an adventure. I would absolutely recommend any book from this series for any child (boy or girl) who is reading to read on their own. :)
Great books to get your child interested in reading. My daughter is 7 years old and loves this series. She gets so interested in the adventures that she is reading about, that she can't seem to put the books down. She reads all the time. Always wanting to see where Jack and Annie are going next. She is just amazed with the history lessons that are tied in with the adventures.
