this is the best book ever written about the breed, other reviews say they totally disagree with him, which is their right.but he writes about facts and knows more of the great dogmen and dogs then any of these so called experts.fighting is part of their history, while i do not condone any illegal activities , i believe their full history is what makes them the most loving and stable breed out there.they are by nature a loving, loyal and protective breed.anyone can make a dog mean, and that is a sin.problem is ,is these are very strong dogs and you don`t want a mean one, because when they do bite it is not good, alot of damage.but they have been around for hundreds of years and about in the 80`s all the gangbangers found out about them and have abused them and made them mean and have used their strength to make them seem tougher and are certainly not responsible owners.they fight the dogs to the death, which is not the point of fighting them.the old-timers would never own, let alone breed what they called"man-eaters".no matter how good a fighter the dog was they could not have them, because in real fighting there is rules, and there are 2 handlers and a referee in the ring,if a dog was prone to bite people, this would be an obvious problem.let me say i owned a pit from `84 to `94 and haven`t owned a dog since.due to were i live the dog just wouldn`t have enough room.and i never fought my dog or ever been to a dog-fight.but i understand how this activitiy made them the greatest breed mever.i know this is not a popular point mof view, but i know it is the truth.read richard stratton and maybe you can see why i might have this point of view,i know most people still will not agree with me, but that is fine,we are allowed different points of view.pit bulls are not for everyone, you have to be a very responsible owner, and that`s were the problem is,the type of people who own them.the media has done so many stories about them,it is sick.and they do no research.the just type or say whatever crazy thing they have heard and i believe they have just made things up,because it sells newspapers.they have become self-fulfilling prophecies.like how the will steal your mpoodle to train them.this has happened, but is the stupidist thing ever and they are stupid people who probably read it in the paper and thought this is how you train i dog to fight.in the old days the great old dogmen loved their dogs,i know you won`t believe this, more than you love your dog.let me go back to not owning mean dogs.if you are in a ring with a mean dog or a dog that is not game ,such as your common house dog, when they are injured they will bite anything.gameness is all they bred for.let me exlain gameness,it is something most people never heard of,some know what it is and some revere it.gamenss is never giving up,it is like a marathon runner who hits the "wall"feels like he can`t go another step, but he does.it is "ROCKY' the first one.watch it again and watch when rocky when gets up in the 14th.that is gameness.when a dog is injured they are dangerous, that is what has made the pit the most stable dog and the safest to have around kids.you know how kids can be with dogs, pull their tail, step on their foot, etc. your average dog just might bite out of instinct, this is what separates pits from common dogs, and they got this way by fighting, with rules.stratton explains the rules.imo it is not cruel the way it used to be done, learn yourself and forget the lies you hear, then talk 2 meRead full review
This book is very accurate in describing the APBT. Although the author and I completely DISAGREE (cannot stress that enough) about the world of dog fighting. I guess I fit under the catagory of one of the "humaniacs" as what he calls people like me. Overall, I learned alot about bloodlines (which I was very interested in learning about). Great book for first time APBT owners to learn more about this ATHLETIC breed.
Thank you for this beautiful book!
